The day has come for my ski boot fitting, after considering it for sometime, I hoped that my own pair of boots would help me improve even though I was relatively early in my journey.

I had been doing some research and had considered going to Snow & Rock as they provide boot fittings. Then I came across a video for Ski Boot Fitting at the Skiers Lounge in Horsham. The video was useful and amusing, so I decided to give them ago, they came across knowledgeable and caring about finding the correct boot for you.

We arrive for the appointment early and the previous customer is still there, we spend sometime talking to Scott the owner.

The staff are really helpful and knowledgable, we go through the process as outlined in the video. Starting with taking some measurements and I am informed that my boot size is 25.5 Mond Points, at which point I say really? I had been using 27.5 hire boots at the Snow Center. 27.5 is equivalent to a UK size 8 shoe, but Dan advises me that unlike a show you don’t need the extra length.

Dan then heads off and comes back with a pair of Nordica Speedmachine 3 boots, he then removes the liner and gets me to try them on to test the fit they are perfect.

I mention that I was looking at Rosignol boots previously, Dan heads off and brings out a pair Rosignol and a pair of Technica boots. I try on both pairs the Rosignol feel too tight and the Technica feel too loose. I am impressed that the correct boot was chosen first time. I decided that the Nordica’s are the obvious choice.

We then move on to the custom insoles, I am paying upwards of £350 for a pair of expertly fitted ski boots, it’s a no brainier to get custom fitted insoles as well. The boot liner is also heat moulded for a perfect fit. I had obviously made the right choice as the boots selected for me were only £350 with the Trchnica being more expensive. So they selected the correct boot for me not what was best for them. A boot bag was also purchased for me, by my partner which received a discount as I was purchasing boots.

Reflection: I am hoping my new purchase will help my progression on the slope with a tailored fit guaranteed every time. I am really impressed with service provided by the Skiers Lounge, I am not sure if I would have received the same service at a mainstream retailer. If you need new boots I would highly recommend the Skiers Lounge. It’s unfortunate that I need to wait a week to try my new purchase out.
