I first came across Garmish-Partenkirchen on a family trip to Berchtesgaden and we passed through on the train from Munich.
Garmish-Partenkirchen famously hosted the fourth winter olympics in 1936. The town itself was created in 1935 with unification of the separate entities of Garmish and Partenkirchen.
The main UK ski holiday companies do not offer holidays to here, so any trip would have to be self organised. Options include flying into Munich and then a regional train to Garmish-Partenkirchen which takes less than an hour and half.
Alternatively you could take Eurostar to Brussels and then Deutsche Bahn to Cologne then to Munich, this journey takes around eleven hours.
I think a visit will be for later in my skiing journey, looking at the ski map, there are a few blue runs, with some linking up to red runs. It does have two areas to explore, Zugspitzplatt which has limited runs and is separate to the adjourning area which has more runs. The ski season runs from mid-December to the end of March.
